Warren. Her family has great faith
in the future of wool. Brigid has
always been inspired by a mix of new, old and unexpected textures.
Her passion for natural products is reflected in her use of these types
of fabrics and the exquisite prints are designed for and exclusive to her brand.
These elements are just a part of Brigid’s philosophy to create unique,
ageless, and artistic clothes to be lived in and loved by our ladies”
“Brigid

SEMINARS
The
“Country Energy” Nyngan Ag Expo team members are pleased to present four
seminar topics featuring speakers renowned in their fields.
Beginning at 9.30am on Saturday 2nd
August will be “Wheat Marketing” presented by Malcolm Bartholomaeus.
A regular contributor to the Land newspaper, Malcolm is a prominent
commodities marketing specialist. Based
on his rural property at Clare north of
Adelaide
, he conducts an
Australia
wide consultancy advising on forward selling and trading in marketing products
associated with the sale of wheat and wool.
At the Nyngan Ag Expo
Malcolm will speak on the use of marketing tools to assist the bottom line for
farmers and protection from losses which could occur if unwary.
After the drought years of 2006 and 2007, farmers who sought to take
advantage of forward selling to maximize the benefits of a high price for
December deliveries suffered losses when confronted with no production and the
commitments of contracts. Malcolm
will explain how to avoid this scenario in addition to hedging, forward selling,
forward selling techniques, safety processes to avoid losses and swaps and
trades. Malcolm will give the
practical meaning of these terms and explain situations when they can be used.
From
10.30am Professor John Taylor, Director of Rangelands Australia and
recent graduate David Taylor of Myola, Trundle will introduce Rangelands
“Learning for a sustainable future” programs and courses which are
specifically designed for those mature-aged people who use and manage the
rangelands for grazing, and those who support them such as advisors,
facilitators, consultants, etc.
Professor John Taylor is
a graduate of
Queensland
and
New England
Universities
who has worked in the rangelands of NSW, Qld and NT, specialized in rangeland
ecology and management and more recently has been building the suite of
courses that comprise
Australia
’s acclaimed educational program in rangeland management.
David Taylor is a
fourth generation Central West farmer from Trundle.
He left school in year 10 , then went to
Agricultural
College
at Yanco and following this undertook a TAFE sheep and wool certificate part
time. David runs his property “Myola”,
Trundle as a dual purpose merino enterprise along with cropping.
Drought meant that David had stock on the Travelling Stock Routes for
periods of time and this is when he decided to do something with his time and
started studying. He undertook a Diploma of Marketing, Bachelors of Business
and of Arts and is now undertaking a Masters of Rangeland Management with
Rangelands
Australia
..
Rangelands
Australia
works in partnership with people in the rangelands to provide high quality and
practical learning opportunities. This
is most relevant for the people who will be using and managing rangelands, and
those supporting them such as advisors, facilitators, consultants, etc.
The programs offered are quite unique in that they have designed
specifically to suit people living and working in grazing industries beyond the
farming and cropping country. They
recognise existing skills and knowledge so do not necessarily need applicants to
have completed tertiary education despite offering post graduate qualifications.
At 11.30am, Dr Maarten Stapper will present the
“Soil Health & Agricultural Viability” seminar.
Maarten has lived, studied and worked in the
Netherlands
,
Canada
,
USA
,
Iraq
,
Syria
, and, since 1982, in
Australia
.
As a
farming systems agronomist Maarten has quantified production in many wheat
paddocks in dryland and irrigation districts in southeastern
Australia
. In that work he has become aware that most problems start with the soil, and
thus the search for solutions should commence there.
The main
focus of Maarten’s work is helping farmers improve the profitability of their
operations by harnessing the power of natural soil processes, improving their
use of inputs and understanding those practices that negatively impact on soil
health. A healthy soil produces
better crops and pastures, requiring less fertilisers and agro-chemicals for
similar productivity, plants becoming more drought and frost tolerant, and
providing healthier, mineral denser feed and food.
The key
areas which Maarten will address are healthy food production in a healthy
landscape; How to manage soil fertility; Living soils don't degrade; Soil
biology helps in drought; and what do weeds tell you.
From
12.15pm, Dr Bob Holloway will present the “Fluid Fertilisers” seminar.
Since 1998, Bob has undertaken much research with ten years continual
support from GRDC and SAGIT, the major funding bodies in agricultural research. In
2001 Bob received the Australian Centenary medal for service to the rural
community through research in dry land farming and management practices. In
2005 he was presented with the Researcher of the Year award of the Fluid
Fertilizer Foundation of the
USA
where he is acknowledged an authority on fluid fertilisers. He has been a
regular speaker at research and extension venues throughout
Australia
and in the
USA
and
Canada
.
Bob
has helped run fluid fertiliser research workshops in
Australia
and in the
USA
and has published more than 100 journal, conference and technical papers during
his career. In 2006 on his
retirement from SARDI, Bob was made an Honorary Fellow of SARDI.
On
Saturday 2nd August, Bob will speak at the Nyngan Ag Expo in regard
to why fluid phosphorus fertilisers more efficient on calcareous soils compared
with granular fertiliser; Where
nitrogen and micronutrients fit in; What soil types are likely to respond to
fluid fertilisers; What sorts of fluid fertilisers are available - what South
Australian farmers doing about conversion to fluid fertilisers; What role soil
testing plays in making nutrition decisions in cropping; and new developments -
Phosphorus Buffer Index (PBI), DGT (Diffusive Gradients in Thin Films). New
chelates. PeK acid.
